ABC FOR INVESTOR IN CHAMBER REGIONS NITRA AND KOMáROM-ESZTERGOM- ABC INVEST
Welcome to Nitra region
The region of Nitra and its metropolis, the ancient City of NITRA, played an important role in the history of forming the Slovak nation, its culture and education.
The Slavonic history of the region of Nitra dates back to the end of the 5th century when the first Slavs came here. As long ago as the first half of the 7th century, the Western sources mention a state formation of Slavs, the Samo´s Empire. The Samo´s Empire was kind of a predecessor of the next state formation, the Great Moravia. Nitra was one of the centers of Great Moravia.
In the days of the Great Moravian Empire, the foundations of the praised glory of the ancient Christian Nitra were laid; this fact is documented by exceptionally rare documentary deeds dating back to the 9th century. The name of the regional City, Nitra, is connected with the beginnings of the Slavonic history, with the names of the dukes Pribina, Svätopluk and Rastislav. In 863, the Duke Pribina invited a Byzantine mission of Constantine and Methodius who created the first Slavonic alphabet called “hlaholica” thus laying down the foundations of the Slavonic literature. The king Béla IV bestowed the city privileges upon Nitra for granting a help to him during the invasion of Tartars.
As a result of a natural historical development of the seven district of the region of Nitra, the City of Nitra is an administrative, commercial, economic and cultural center of the region.
The region of Nitra (6,343 sq km = 2,450 sq miles) is the fifth largest region of Slovak republic; it is situated in the Southwestern part of Slovakia. It neighbours upon Hungary and within Slovakia with the regions of Trnava, Trenčín and Banská Bystrica. Together with the regions of Trnava and Trenčín, it forms the territorial unit NUTS II West.
Quality agricultural soil covers most of the Southeastern and Southern parts. The territory of the region belongs to the main granaries of Slovakia. The mineral resources of the region include mainly non-ore raw materials such as coal and peat. There are also rich deposits of building and decorative stones, as well as those of brick-clay. The region is also rich in mineral waters and thermal springs. The occurrence of thermal springs facilitates, among other things, a development of tourism.
According to the administrative division of Slovak republic, the region of Nitra consists of seven districts: Nitra, Komárno, Levice, Nové Zámky, Šaľa, Topoľčany and Zlaté Moravce.
The region of Nitra concentrates 13.2 % of the population of Slovak republic. As to the population, 707,305 inh. in 2006, it is the third biggest region in Slovakia, after the regions of Prešov and Košice. The density of population is 112 inh. per sq km (i. e. 290 inhab. per sq mile), while the Slovak average is 110 inh./sq km. The districts of Nitra, Šaľa and Topoľčany muster an over average density within the region. The largest city of the region is Nitra with 84,800 inhabitants. The population of Nové Zámky, Komárno and Levice exceed the limit of 30,000 people.

As to the individual districts, the highest unemployment rate was recorded in the districts of Levice, Šaľa and Nové Zámky. The unemployment in the region represents 12.6 % of all unemployed in Slovakia, and the region is in the 4th place among the regions.
The region of Nitra that has been known, above all, for its agricultural tradition for a long time, is recording a considerable industrial development nowadays, and it represents one of the most attractive areas for investments in Slovakia. The attractiveness is characterized mainly by a strong potential of input factors for industrial production, a sufficient space potential for development, an advantageous geographic location at important transport routes, availability of skilled human resources, a development of transborder cooperation and an important international center of exhibitions in the regional city.
The region of Nitra belongs to the category of industrial-agricultural regions of Slovak republic. The industry, mainly machinery, the food processing and chemical industry have the decisive positions. The nuclear power station in Mochovce is very important from the point of view of energy. The exhibition area Agrokomplex Nitra with a total area of 125 ha (309 acres) hosts some 20 international trade fairs and exhibitions a year and is the largest in Slovakia.

Problems
During realization of ABC Invest project, we haven’t registered any problems.
Summary
The goal of ABC Invest was to integrate the capital and know-how of private investors and credit institutions into the small and medium-sized enterprises which have both the intention to attract investors and the capacity of growth. Despite the numerous SME’s in our region – generated also by the settled multinational manufacturers – they are in a need of financial resources, thus it’s necessary for their growth and competitiveness to promote investments. We have developed a continuously updated databank for enterprises looking for opportunities to invest about the possibilities for investment in the region and the systems encouraging and facilitating investments maintained by the municipalities. The amount of enterprise looking for investors is growing in our regions. We expect to realize the growth by arousing the interest of domestic investors, suppliers and investors from the developed economies of the EU or outside the EU. According to our judgement the volume of production could be facilitated thanks to our activities by 0,1% - 0,2%.
We believe that all our project activities, as well as methods, how to integrate the capital and know-how of private investors and credit institutions into the small and medium-sized enterprises, will be usable in the future.
